1. Who we are
This Privacy Policy explains how Susan Mac Nicol, trading as AuthorOrbit (“we”, “us”, “our”), collects and uses personal data through the website at authororbit.co.uk (the “Site”). We are the data controller for the personal data described below. You can reach us at contact@authororbit.co.uk.
2. The short version
The AuthorOrbit app itself is local-only software: it doesn’t send your manuscripts, royalty data or reader information anywhere, unless you specifically choose to use an optional AI feature (see our Terms of Use, clause 7, and our AI transparency statement). This policy is about the marketing website, not about data inside the app.
3. What we collect, and why
Email enquiries. If you email us, we hold your name, address and whatever you write, so we can reply. We handle this on the basis of our legitimate interest in responding to people who contact us, or, where relevant, to take steps ahead of entering a contract with you.
Purchase information. Payments are processed by Stripe, who collect the information needed to take your payment — name, billing address, card details and transaction data. Stripe processes this as its own controller under its own privacy policy; we receive only the order details we need to fulfil and account for your purchase, and we never see your full card number.
Refund requests. If you ask for a refund, we hold the details you send us — including your decommission confirmation code and any screenshot — for as long as we need to deal with the request and to keep a record of the transaction for tax and accounting purposes.
Website usage data. Our web host records standard server logs, which may include your IP address, browser type and the pages you requested, to keep the Site secure and working. We don’t run analytics or advertising tracking on this Site.
4. Cookies
This Site sets no cookies. There is no analytics, no advertising and no tracking, so there is nothing for you to consent to or opt out of. If that ever changes, we’ll update this policy and ask for your consent where the law requires it.
One thing worth naming for the sake of being straight with you: the Site loads its typefaces from Google Fonts. That doesn’t set a cookie, but it does mean your browser makes a request to Google’s servers, which discloses your IP address to Google. If you’d rather it didn’t, a content blocker will stop it and the Site will still work — it will just use your device’s default typefaces.
5. How long we keep it
We keep email enquiries for as long as needed to deal with them, and for a reasonable period afterwards in case you get back in touch, then delete them. Purchase and refund records are kept for as long as UK tax and accounting law requires.
6. Who we share it with
We don’t sell your personal data. We share it only with the service providers who help us run the business — our website host, our email provider and our payment processor (Stripe) — under arrangements that require them to protect it. We may also disclose data where the law requires it.
7. Your rights
Under UK GDPR you have the right to ask us for a copy of the personal data we hold about you, to ask us to correct or delete it, to object to or restrict our use of it, and to ask us to transfer it elsewhere. To exercise any of these, email contact@authororbit.co.uk. If you’re unhappy with how we’ve handled your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk.
8. International transfers
Where an AI feature sends content to Anthropic at your own choice, that transfer is between you and Anthropic under Anthropic’s own privacy terms — worth a look if you plan to use those features. Stripe and our host may also process data outside the UK under their own safeguards.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the Site and app evolve. We’ll post the current version here with its effective date.
