Refund Policy
Last updated: 24 September 2026
AuthorOrbit is a one-off purchase for software you install and keep, so we want you to be sure it’s right for you. This policy explains how to cancel, and the rights you have by law.
1. Our 14-day cancellation period
Every purchase can be cancelled within 14 days. Email us within 14 days of buying and we’ll refund you in full. You don’t need to give a reason — though if you’d like to tell us what didn’t work, we’re always glad to hear it.
This applies whether you bought as a consumer or for your business, and whether or not you have already downloaded and installed the app. We don’t ask you to waive anything at checkout to get it.
It is a promise we make on top of your legal rights, not instead of them. Where the law gives you more, the law wins.
There is one exception, and it concerns work rather than software: if we have already carried out your done-for-you setup, that time can’t be given back. See section 5.
2. Your statutory rights
If you buy as a consumer — that is, for purposes mainly outside a business — UK law gives you rights of its own, and we honour them in full.
Cancelling your order. Under the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013 you have 14 days from the day your order is confirmed to cancel it and receive a refund, without giving a reason.
If something is wrong with the app. Under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, digital content must be of satisfactory quality, fit for its purpose and as described. If AuthorOrbit does not meet that standard you can ask us to repair or replace it, and if we cannot put it right within a reasonable time and without significant inconvenience to you, you are entitled to a price reduction or a refund. That right is not limited to the first 14 days.
If you buy for business purposes those consumer rights don’t apply to you — but the 14-day cancellation period in section 1 still does, because we offer it to every purchaser. Nothing in this policy reduces or replaces any right you do have.
3. One step first: decommission your installation
Because AuthorOrbit runs entirely on your own computer, there’s nothing for us to switch off at our end. So before we process a refund, we ask you to decommission your copy:
- Open AuthorOrbit and go to Settings.
- Select Decommission this installation and confirm.
- AuthorOrbit locks itself to view-only — your data is all still there and still readable, but nothing more can be added, edited or deleted.
- You’ll be shown a confirmation code and a timestamp. Take a screenshot of that screen.
Decommissioning can’t be undone from inside the app, so please only use it if you’re genuinely requesting a refund. If you close the confirmation screen too quickly, the code can always be found again in Settings.
4. How to request a refund
Email contact@authororbit.co.uk with the subject line “Refund request — decommissioned”, and include:
- your decommission confirmation code and the screenshot of that screen;
- the email address you used to buy AuthorOrbit.
We aim to respond within 5 working days, and we’ll process the refund within 5 working days of receiving your confirmation code. Depending on your bank, the money usually reaches you within a further 5–10 working days. Refunds are made to the payment method you originally used.
5. The done-for-you setup service
The setup service is a service rather than software, and is treated separately from the licence. If you ask us to begin within your cancellation period and then cancel, you are responsible for the part already carried out. Once we have completed the import and handed it over the service has been fully performed, and the setup fee is no longer refundable. If we have not started, we refund it in full.
6. AI costs
AuthorOrbit’s optional AI features run on your own Anthropic API key, and Anthropic bills you directly for what you use. We never charge you for AI usage, so there’s nothing for us to refund there — any queries about your Anthropic bill are between you and Anthropic.
7. When we may decline
We may decline a refund where there’s evidence of misuse of the licence, fraud, or where a chargeback has already been raised with your bank or card provider. Nothing in this clause affects your statutory rights where the app is faulty, not as described, or not fit for purpose.
8. If something goes wrong later
Whenever you hit a problem we want to hear about it. If the app does not work as described, or you run into a technical fault we cannot resolve, get in touch at contact@authororbit.co.uk and we will look into it — that may mean a fix, or a refund, depending on what has gone wrong and what your rights under section 1 entitle you to.
